The Fishing Report - April 1, 2023

It’s opening day for trout (although many states including NY have extended the season for special regs water) and I can’t think of a better way to get it started than with a fishing report which you can find our on YouTube Channel here.

Generally speaking, the tributaries in Western New York have been high with the recent rains so get comfortable with muddy water. The steelhead are making their way into the system and you may find the odd brown or two as we did last week. If you are fishing the spring creeks…scuds and midges are the ticket.

Out on the Salmon River, the spring steelhead campaigns is just getting underway (we do have a few dates in late April / early May still available). The water remains on the colder end and the spawn hasn’t quite started yet. Cover lots of water and drifting eggs and nymphs will likely be the producers.

See you on the water!
Jay
